Position: Lecturer (Full-Time Appointment; 1 year term)

Location:Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853-5701.

The academic home for this position is the Department of Landscape Architecture in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Our department is adapting to meet the critical issues affecting the planet and its inhabitants through a continued emphasis on the agency of design.


The Department of Landscape Architecture at Cornell University seeks applications for a lecturer position to begin fall 2024, August 1, 2024. This position requires the candidate to have teaching and/or professional practice experience in high quality contemporary design and the ability to teach design studios grounded in the historical and theoretical foundations of the field, particularly in introductory and early-sequence design studios. In addition to graduate and undergraduate studio teaching, the candidate will be expected to have expertise and interest in at least one other area that will allow them to teach workshops, seminars, or technical courses on topics such as ecological infrastructure, site scale applied technologies, social equity and resilience, design theory, and/or other topics in landscape architecture. These courses will contribute to a curriculum that aims to prepare skilled and critical practitioners and researchers, and expand the role of landscape architecture in addressing pressing anthropogenic issues. We seek faculty with innovative professional and/or teaching experience who can contribute to the development of a systematic cultural and ecological foundation for the design of environments.


Qualifications:

The lecturer must have at least one professional design degree in landscape architecture, required Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA). Prior teaching experience is desirable but not required.


Anticipated Division of Time:

The lecturer will be responsible for two graduate or undergraduate design studios per year, likely at the early or introductory studio level, along with two seminars or technical courses per year, also one per semester. The lecturer will be expected to assist with departmental service tasks as needed. The lecturer will not have formal advisees assigned to them. However, students will expect to get informal advice on job searches and internship opportunities. Approximately 95% of the lecturer's time will be spent on teaching activities and 5% on department service.

Pay Range:

$49,700.00 - $122,000.00

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.

  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.

  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
